Hi, I’m Chris. Yes, I’m genuinely asking the internet to help me buy a car. Here’s the whole truth.
I’m a self-employed IT consultant from Edinburgh. I’ve spent twenty years keeping other people’s systems running, and never once bought myself something just because I wanted it.
This 4×4 has been my daydream since I was a teenager flicking through motor magazines on my nan’s sofa. Not as an investment, not to flip: just the one proper treat of my life.
I could quietly save for another decade, or I could be honest and ask. So I’m asking. If a few hundred people pledge the price of a coffee, the daydream becomes a driveway.

This is a voluntary gift, not a purchase. There are no rewards, no shares, no equity, no entry into any draw and no chance to win the car. Nobody receives goods, services or any benefit for pledging.

Do I get anything in return?
No, and that is the whole point. Your pledge is a voluntary gift. There are no perks, rewards, shares, equity or services. Just my genuine thanks and an honest progress bar.
Do I pay anything now?
No. Nothing is charged on this site and no card details are collected at any point. A pledge records that you intend to contribute. If the campaign gets where it needs to be, I will email you about how to send it. Until then, nothing happens.
Can I win the car?
No. There is no prize draw, raffle, lottery or competition of any kind. Nobody can win the vehicle. This is simply transparent gifting.
Is this a charity? Is it tax-deductible?
No. Fuel the Dream is not a registered charity, this is not charitable giving, pledges are not tax-deductible and no Gift Aid applies.
Why do you need my email address?
To confirm the pledge is really yours, and to contact you about it later. It is never shown publicly and never passed to anyone. A pledge only joins the public total once you click the link in that email, which is what stops anyone inflating the bar with a made-up figure.
Can I stay anonymous?
Absolutely, and anonymity is the default. Your name and message only ever appear on the supporters wall if you explicitly tick the consent box, and even then only after I have read it.
Can I change my mind?
Any time, no questions asked. Every email I send you contains a link that withdraws your pledge instantly, and another that deletes your details from the database entirely. Since no money has changed hands, there is nothing to refund.
What if the target isn’t reached?
I will be honest about it. Because nothing is charged up front, an unmet target costs you nothing at all. If the full amount does not come together, I will either top up the difference myself or pick a vehicle to suit the total, and say so publicly either way.
Is this affiliated with a car manufacturer?
Not in any way. Fuel the Dream is completely independent and unaffiliated. The car is referred to generically and no manufacturer endorses or is connected to this campaign.
